Ghana racer Benjamin Azamati has stated that watching legendary sprinter Usain Bolt compete inspired him to become an athlete.
He said this in an interview with Supersport ahead of competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. The competition runs from Friday, July 26 to August 11.
Azamati competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and expressed that he was “more excited” to compete in his second Olympics and represent Ghana.
The Ghana national record holder added that watching Usain Bolt, who holds the world record at 9.58 seconds, was a major inspiration behind his venture into the sport.
“Every athlete wants to be like Usain (Bolt). Definitely his hard work and dedication to the sport doing so well so that will be it, it’s about watching Usain Bolt and how inspiring it was being able to inspire me to be the athlete that I am.”
Azamati is part of Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Relay Team that is gunning to improve its seventh place finish in the Tokyo Games in 2020. Ghana’s Flagbearer for the opening ceremony, Joseph Paul Amoah, is a member of the Relay Team.
