The United Kingdom has imposed a 10-year visa ban on 1,632 Ghanaians after they were found to have used fraudulent documents in their applications. The figure represents four per cent of all Ghanaian visa applicants in 2024.

“In 2024, 1,632 applicants from Ghana used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas. While that represents only four per cent of all Ghanaian applicants, it is still far too many people misled by agents into taking an action that resulted in a 10-year visa ban. Fraud is never worth the risk,”
British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr. Christian Rogg, said.

He made the remarks as the High Commissions of Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom launched a one-week public awareness campaign to address rising visa fraud in Ghana.

Misinformation and High Risks

According to the three missions, visa fraud remains a growing concern, with misinformation and the activities of fake agents causing many Ghanaians to lose money, face emotional distress, and suffer long-term travel restrictions.

A joint statement said the campaign forms part of a global initiative led by UK Visas & Immigration and supported by partner countries including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Timed to coincide with International Fraud Awareness Week (November 16–22, 2025), the initiative aims to educate the public on visa scams, promote safe application practices and encourage the use of official channels.

Partners Speak

Australian High Commissioner Berenice Owen-Jones reaffirmed her country’s commitment to tackling visa fraud.

“The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message — if you are applying for a visa, always use trusted, official sources and beware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results,” she said.

Canadian High Commissioner Myriam Montrat also emphasized Canada’s stance on safe and orderly migration.

“Canada remains firmly committed to stopping fraudulent practices that put applicants at risk. We are proud to collaborate on the ‘Fighting Visa Fraud Together’ campaign with Australia and the United Kingdom to protect applicants and safeguard the integrity of our immigration systems,” she noted.

Public Sensitization

The statement said the three countries remain committed to ensuring transparent and secure visa processes for all genuine applicants.

Throughout the campaign, the High Commissions will share educational content on their social media platforms and encouraged the public to follow updates via the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH.
