A State funeral for the former Inspector-General of Police, H. E. James Y. A. Kwofie, is currently underway at the State House in Accra. 

The late former IGP J. Y. A. Kwofie, led the Ghana Police Service from 1st January 1990 to 30th September 1996. He also served as a Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority during his time in public service.

Mr Kwofie is reported to have died on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was over 90 years old.

He was succeeded by Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri as the IGP who also passed on in February 2023.
