Ghanaian-born UK-based gospel musician, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rev Eastwood Anaba, the founder of Fountain Gate Chapel for helping him overcome depression while living in the United State with his family.

The musician recently opened up about his struggles, sharing that after relocating to the UK, he would often withdraw to his office, spending hours alone, struggling to cope with difficulties.

Sonnie Badu bravely shared his personal struggle with depression, including a pivotal moment when suicidal thoughts crossed his mind.

Thoughts of the well-being of his six children provided the necessary strength for him to push through the most challenging periods of depression.

Crediting Rev. Eastwood Anaba, for playing a vital role in his recovery, he disclosed that God revealed his struggles to revered man of God who then provided guidance and support.  “I battled depression for almost six months. Sometimes, I would stay in my office alone for 12 hours with the lights off, not wanting to talk to anyone. It was really bad, but during that time, I wrote a song. The thought of harming myself crossed my mind once or twice.

“But thinking about my six children made it difficult. They are young, and if something happened to me, that would be my biggest concern. That thought gave me hope.

“The painful part was having to pay my bills, and you know how the US system is. All the bills come after buying a house. I had to pray, lay hands, and seek counselling. Rev. Eastwood was the one God used to redeem me,” he stated.

Last week, Sonnie Badu made revelations about the neglect he faced from his colleagues within the gospel fraternity after a devastating injury in 2023 prior to his concert at the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference (AICC) last year.

The award winning singer is gearing up for this year’s edition of Rhythms of Africa slated for the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) on Friday, November 29.
