Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has urged an immediate halt to the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces following Wednesday’s stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium, which claimed six lives and left several others injured.
“The process must be halted immediately. Halt it immediately and let us prioritize lives,” Rev. Fordjour said during JoyNews’ midday news coverage of the incident.
He described the tragedy as deeply concerning and emphasized the urgent need to review the recruitment process to ensure proper crowd management and safety protocols.
“As we halt it, we need to get back to the table and review the entire process,” he suggested.
The lawmaker also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the disaster, stressing that accountability and reforms are essential to restore public confidence in the recruitment process.
“A full investigation has to be undertaken to establish the facts, and reviews have to be put into the process for us to be able to save lives,” he stated.
