The Volta Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the murder of 32-year-old Julius Sablah, popularly known as D-Black, and the violent mob attack on the Ehi Police Station on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
A statement signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Command, said preliminary findings indicate that on Monday, November 3, at about 9:00 p.m., suspect Kofi Agbavitor, 25, allegedly stabbed Sablah with a jackknife during a confrontation, resulting in his death.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene and sought refuge at the Ehi Police Station. However, an angry crowd pursued him and demanded that the police release him for instant justice—a request the officers refused.
The situation escalated when the mob armed with stones, clubs, and other weapons launched an attack on the police station, destroying property including office equipment, stationery, and television sets. They also burned an exhibit vehicle and vandalized two police vehicles belonging to the District Command.
Police personnel on duty were assaulted, and the suspect was beaten unconscious. Reinforcement teams were later deployed to restore order and secure the safety of officers and the suspect.
Three injured police officers and the suspect were taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Dzodze, where they are receiving treatment.
According to the police, CCTV and other video evidence are being reviewed to identify and arrest all those involved for prosecution.
The Ehi Police Station has since been temporarily closed as investigations continue.
The Volta Regional Police Command has urged the public, especially the youth, to avoid mob justice and resort to lawful means for resolving disputes.
