The La District Court has given the prosecution in the O’Reilly Senior High School murder case 24 hours to submit a hospital report to ascertain the age of the student accused of the murder of a general Arts student of the school.

The confusion over the accused person’s age has become a subject matter, stalling the commencement of the committal proceedings.

While the family of the deceased claims the accused, who had been provisionally charged with murder, is 24 years old, others have also indicated that he is 18 years.

This prompted the court to order the medical examination to ascertain his age.

In court yesterday, the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei informed the court that the report would be ready today Friday, September 20.
C/Insp Paul Osei Adjei said the post-mortem report was ready, adding, “frantic efforts are being taken to get all reports ready to ascertain his age”.

He added that the blood sample of the accused (name withheld) has been taken by the Police Hospital, praying the court for one week adjournment, but the court declined that request.

Order

The presiding judge, Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, said a case of such public interest could not be allowed to delay.

“I won’t accept any delay. I will adjourn the case to tomorrow,” she said.
Consequently, the court ordered that the hospital report indicating the age of the accused should be produced to the court today, Friday, September 20.
