Akyem Oda MP Inaugurates Seven Development Projects Worth GH¢1.5 Million

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has commissioned seven development projects across four communities in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region. The projects, valued at GH¢1.5 million, include facilities for water, education, health, and sanitation.

The beneficiary communities—Oda, Akyem Aboabo, Gyadam, and Essam—received the following:

  • Oda Zongo: Rehabilitation of a Junior High School (JHS) classroom block at Birim Central Municipal JHS.
  • Oda Old Town (Srodae): A modern 20-seater public toilet facility equipped with four baths.
  • Gyadam: A child welfare clinic and antenatal center.
  • Essam: A mechanized borehole and a 10-seater public toilet facility.
  • Akyem Aboabo: A modern store, an office, a staff common room, and a water closet toilet facility for the staff and pupils of Salvation Army JHS.

Enhancing Community Development

Speaking at separate inauguration ceremonies, Mr. Acquah stated that the projects were funded through his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund and were in direct response to requests from local leaders.

He urged community members to maintain the facilities to ensure their longevity and noted that the construction was carried out by local contractors who employed workers from the respective communities to create job opportunities.

The MP also pledged to construct a modern health center in Gyadam to meet the needs of the growing population. Additionally, in response to the lack of a toilet facility at the Oda M/A JHS, he promised to provide a water closet that is public convenience to enhance sanitation.

Acknowledgments and Continued Support

The Birim Central Municipal Director of Education, Esther Quaye Sowah, praised the MP for his dedication to education in the area. She highlighted his consistent support over the past four years, including the provision of mathematical sets for all final-year JHS students and organizing mock examinations to prepare them for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Local leaders, including Alhaji Sulemana Adamu, the Oda Zongo Chief, and Nana Owusua Akoto, Queenmother of Akyem Aboabo, also commended the MP for his contributions to the development of their communities.
