The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is all set to host football activities again. After undergoing renovations, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has given the green light for the stadium’s reopening. Miss Patience Adams, the Asanti Regional Public Relation Officer, of the NSA, confirmed this exiting news during an interview with Akoma FM.
“All work at the Baba Yara Stadium is completed and ready to host any football events, but we are awaiting clearance from our masters in Accra before the facility can be opened,” she stated.
In fact, the stadium is not only ready for local football matches but also for international events. The NSA has assured fans that the Baba Yara Stadium will be ready to host the Black Stars’ on going 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
The stadium had been closed for renovations after CAF deemed it unfit for international matches, primarily due to the poor condition of the pitch. This closure forced Ghana to relocate its 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan to Accra, and Asante Kotoko SC had to shift their home games to Obuasi.
It’s worth noting that the stadium was previously rented out for church activities, generating a significant revenue of GHS 900,000 before the Black Stars match against Angola. Now, with the renovation completed, the stadium is poised to host more exciting football events.
