Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has accused her successor, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, of orchestrating a smear campaign to destroy her reputation and allegedly plotting to end her life.
The former Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister claimed that from the onset of Naa Koryoo’s political career in Kasoa, she relied on falsehoods and propaganda to gain public sympathy and win the parliamentary seat.
“From day one, Naa Koryoo came to Kasoa and started fabricating lies because she was taught that if she went that route, she would win the Awutu Senya East seat — and she succeeded,” Hawa Koomson alleged.
She explained that her refusal to engage in similar tactics made her a target for false accusations and character attacks.
“I made up my mind not to follow her path. I don’t know how to lie because I wasn’t raised that way. But she was trained to fabricate lies and make them sound believable — that’s exactly what happened in 2020,” she said.
According to Hawa Koomson, the rivalry intensified during the 2020 elections when she was accused of mobilizing armed men in the constituency — a situation she said only divine intervention prevented from leading to her arrest or prosecution.
She further alleged that during the Ablekuma North re-run, Naa Koryoo’s husband led a group that attacked her, leaving her narrowly escaping a stabbing incident.
“Naa Koryoo wanted to disgrace me and have me killed. Her husband led people to attack me and almost stabbed me during the Ablekuma North re-run. If not for God’s intervention, I would have been in prison by now,” she recounted.
Her remarks come after Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka revealed in Parliament that Naa Koryoo had denied reports of an attack on her convoy during the 2024 elections — contradicting earlier claims that heightened tensions in the area.
Hawa Koomson expressed gratitude that what she described as “the truth” is now emerging, saying she feels vindicated after years of public criticism and false accusations.
