A heartbroken mother from Kasoa, Abigail Nyamalor, has shared the devastating story of how her 22-year-old daughter, Priscilla, lost her life in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment stampede at the El-Wak Stadium.
Priscilla was one of two victims from Kasoa among the six who died in the tragic incident.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Abigail recounted that her daughter had left home early on Wednesday morning to take part in the recruitment exercise. She said she prayed with Priscilla and encouraged her to trust that God would protect her.
“She told me there were a lot of people there, but I said God would be with her. Then she told me she would switch off her phone but promised to come home safely,” the grieving mother recalled.
However, panic set in when Abigail’s repeated calls to her daughter went unanswered. “Eventually, a man picked up and told me to hold on, but no one spoke after that. Later, I was told my daughter had fallen during the stampede and was taken to the 37 Military Hospital,” she said, her voice breaking.
Her worst fears were confirmed when she arrived at the hospital. “When we went to the mortuary, my daughter was there. She was only 22 years old, and none of her belongings could be found,” she said in tears.
Six people lost their lives in the El-Wak Stadium stampede, while several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
