Former NPA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has dismissed the seriousness of his ongoing criminal prosecution by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing the case as “useless.”

In a video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Abdul-Hamid is heard saying, “I came to support my friend Wontumi, me my matter deɛ, it is useless, there is nothing in it.” The remark was made during his visit to the court premises to show solidarity with Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, who is also facing separate legal proceedings.

His comment has stirred public debate, with many questioning his dismissive attitude toward a case involving serious corruption and financial crime allegations.

The OSP is prosecuting Dr. Abdul-Hamid on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit extortion, extortion by a public officer, using public office for profit, and money laundering.

According to the OSP, Dr. Abdul-Hamid and two other National Petroleum Authority (NPA) officials allegedly operated a scheme that caused the State and petroleum sector losses exceeding GH¢291 million and over US$330,000.

Investigations have reportedly led to the seizure and freezing of assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000, with additional properties still under tracing.

Despite these developments, Dr. Abdul-Hamid insists the case has no merit and maintains he has no cause for worry.

The case is expected to continue at the Criminal High Court in Accra on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
