Minority Urges Public to Boycott ORAL Committee Investigations
The Minority in Parliament has called on all individuals invited by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee to boycott its ongoing investigations into alleged corruption-related activities.
According to the Minority, the committee lacks the legal mandate to conduct such probes, arguing that constitutionally established institutions are responsible for investigating and addressing corruption cases.
At a press briefing in Parliament on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, firmly stated that the Minority would not participate in ORAL’s activities.
“Our advice to you from the Minority is to boycott any invitation from the ORAL team. We are not going to be part of it because we believe that constitutionally established bodies are responsible for investigating any so-called misdeeds for the government,” he said.
Mr. Darko also criticized the ORAL team, accusing them of employing heavy-handed tactics in their efforts to recover state assets.
“What they [ORAL] are doing is disturbing people, entering homes, seizing vehicles, and essentially taking over lands from individuals who have lawfully acquired them,” he alleged.
He defended former government officials, insisting that their acquisition of properties was legitimate.
“What former government officials have done is legally acquire properties. No illegality has taken place,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Mr. Darko accused the ORAL committee of political bias, claiming that its efforts were targeted solely at former government officials while members of the current administration engaged in similar practices.
“In any case, NDC members have also acquired lands in this country. The Executive, Okudzeto Ablakwa and others, live in Cantonments, Airport Residential, Tse-Addo—lands that were once government-owned and purchased years ago,” he claimed.
He urged Ghanaians to resist ORAL’s operations, describing the committee as a tool for persecuting political opponents.
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee was established on December 18, 2024, and is chaired by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Its mandate is to recover looted state assets and ensure accountability in the management of public resources.
