The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have begun a joint security operation across three regions to arrest suspects involved in the recent attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
According to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for GAF, the intelligence-led exercise, which started on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, is ongoing in the Ashanti Region (Dwadwene and Anwona), Volta Region (Ehi), and Ahafo Region (Hwidiem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani).
The operation targets individuals linked to the assault on NAIMOS personnel, police officers, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials, and journalists who were attacked while performing their duties.
Security agencies have warned that anyone who attempts to obstruct their operations or engages in illegal mining will “face the full force of the law.”
“The Armed Forces and the Police Service wish to assure the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities,” the statement said.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and continue their daily activities, as the operation is intended to improve public safety rather than cause alarm.
The statement also commended civil society groups, the media, and citizens for condemning the recent attacks on security personnel and urged continued public cooperation to ensure the success of the anti-galamsey campaign.
