A man in his late fifties [name withheld] and a resident of Ashaiman, was found on top of a high-tension pole in the Ashaiman Irrigation Development Authority area on Tuesday, sparking a dramatic rescue operation.
GBC reports that residents in the area noticed him perilously perched atop the high-voltage pole and immediately alerted the authorities.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Motorway Fire and Tollbooth Fire Service, as well as workers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), rushed to the scene to carry out the rescue.
Upon being safely brought down, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with a kidney disorder and had begun treatment.
However, the financial burden of his medical bills, including treatment at the Legon University Hospital, had driven him to despair.
Unable to afford the costs, he admitted he had climbed the pole in an attempt to end his life.
