A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Delali Sewoekpor, has said that President John Dramani Mahama will not hesitate to sanction any member of the party found complicit in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Monday, November 3, 2025, Mr. Sewoekpor stressed that President Mahama’s stance on illegal mining is firm and non-negotiable, irrespective of political affiliation.
“Pollution, they say, is localized, but the effect is global. I have every single commitment and confidence in President John Dramani Mahama to fight galamsey. I heard my colleague saying that some NDC MPs are allegedly involved in galamsey. I want to tell you that if the said person or people are found culpable, President Mahama will deal with that person,” he said.
He noted that the President’s zero-tolerance policy reflects the national sentiment, as Ghanaians are increasingly unwilling to condone impunity in the fight against illegal mining.
“Ghanaians have come to the point that the era of impunity is over. Now, Ghanaians are not willing to tolerate the act of impunity when it comes to galamsey. That is why the President sent a clear signal to his appointees: once you are an appointee, whether you are an NDC member or whatever, you have no right to own a mining license or a lease,” Mr. Sewoekpor added.
He further commended the government’s efforts through the National Inter-Ministerial Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), describing its work as proof of the administration’s commitment to ending the galamsey menace.
“When you look at NAIMOS and their activities, it shows the level of commitment that this government has invested in when it comes to fighting galamsey, and the NPP must applaud President Mahama for showing leadership,” he said.
