President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s determination to modernize Ghana’s transport and logistics sector through wide-ranging reforms aimed at job creation, trade expansion, and alignment with both global and continental development goals.
Speaking at the opening of the maiden Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025 on Wednesday, President Mahama linked his pledge to the 2024 campaign manifesto and the Resetting Ghana Agenda, reaffirming his government’s commitment to building a transport system rooted in safety, innovation, accessibility, and sustainability.
“My administration is fully committed to building a safe, accessible, and technology-driven transport system that supports job creation, enhances trade, and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063,” he stated.
The three-day fair, themed “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,” is taking place at the World Trade Center in Accra. It is organized by the Ministry of Transport, in partnership with agencies such as the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ghana Railways, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
The event brings together key players from government, industry, and academia to promote innovation and investment across all modes of transport.
President Mahama described the fair as a defining moment for Ghana’s infrastructure ambitions, signalling a unified national effort to transform the transport landscape.
“Transport is the heartbeat of every economy. It opens markets, creates opportunities, boosts productivity, and fosters inclusive national development,” he remarked.
He emphasized the importance of stronger public-private collaboration to improve the efficiency of the movement of people and goods.
Outlining his priorities, the President highlighted the modernization of rail, road, maritime, and aviation systems, as well as the integration of these networks to ensure seamless travel and cargo movement within Ghana and across the sub-region.
He also addressed Ghana’s ongoing green transition efforts, noting initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, expanding electric mobility infrastructure, and promoting climate-resilient investments.
Additionally, President Mahama announced plans for a robust regulatory framework to govern the operations of motorcycles and tricycles, popularly known as Okada, to enhance passenger safety while maintaining affordability and accessibility in public transport.
He concluded that the Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025 reflects government’s broader vision of developing a modern, sustainable, and job-creating transport system that positions Ghana as a regional leader in innovative mobility solutions.
