A leading member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Dr Frederick Ntiamoah, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to give young people the opportunity to take up NPP flagbearer roles.

He argued that the party’s current crop of presidential candidates do not represent the future Ghana needs and that it is time to make space for a new generation of leaders.

Speaking on the AM show, Ntiamoah said none of the five individuals vying to lead the NPP into the next election is fit to become president, claiming that they are all part of the country’s past governance and political challenges.

“All the five candidates, if I run them through a little more steps, none of them qualifies to be a president in Ghana here,” he stated.

“If you look at all the five, they are all… complicated. If you look at the dark age that we had eight years ago, this political persecution that we went through, they were all part of it.”

According to him, young people bring innovation, creativity, and a better understanding of the challenges facing the country’s youthful population.

He said the dominance of the “old guard” in the NPP has contributed to many of the structural issues in Ghana’s economy and governance system.

He stressed that the NPP must create space for younger leaders to take charge and rejuvenate the party.

“They have to give room for young people to come and take over and revive the party,” he said. “For old folks to still be battling and fighting — now you hear they are throwing stones at each other — it’s very bad.”

Dr. Ntiamoah argued that youth leadership within the NPP would not only inject fresh energy into the party but also make it more responsive to the aspirations of young voters.

The NPP is currently preparing for its primaries ahead of the 2028 general election. The race for the flagbearer slot has already drawn national attention, with five major contenders vying for the top position.
