Authorities in the Kintampo North Municipality suspect foul play in the massive fire that ravaged the Kintampo market early Sunday, destroying goods valued at millions of cedis.

During separate visits to the scene, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Isaac Donkor, and the Bono East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Akwasi Lampor, both expressed suspicion that the fire may have been deliberately set.

They called on security and investigative agencies to launch a full-scale probe into the incident to uncover the truth and bring any perpetrators to justice.

Describing the fire as deeply unfortunate, MCE Isaac Donkor hinted that the act could have political undertones intended to undermine government efforts.

Mr. Lampor, on his part, assured that NADMO will work closely with the MCE and the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to provide relief and financial support to affected traders who lost their livelihoods in the disaster.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the blaze.
