Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has denied any involvement in the 2024 election-day shooting incident in Kasoa, saying she had no knowledge of the Mahindra vehicle alleged to have been used during the clash.

The former lawmaker said she only learned that her successor, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, owned a Mahindra after reports linked the vehicle to the transport of weapons during the incident, which left one person dead.

“Until my son was stabbed and they packed weapons in a Mahindra to a polling station, I never knew Naa Koryoo had a Mahindra in Kasoa because we don’t use the same route,” she said.

Hawa Koomson maintained that she was nowhere near the location of the alleged shooting and did not use the black vehicle her opponents claimed was involved.

“The place where she said the incident occurred, I wasn’t there. They said a black car was used, but that day I didn’t drive a black car. My friend brought a white Range Rover, and that’s what I used with my bodyguard,” she explained.

She further clarified that she did not cross into the section of Kasoa where the violence reportedly took place.

“On election day, I didn’t go to the other side of Kasoa — Walantu and nearby areas — so I never saw any Mahindra,” she said.

The former Minister for Special Development Initiatives added that she maintains a transparent relationship with the Kasoa Police Command and always informs them of her movements.

“The Kasoa Police are my friends. I don’t go anywhere they are without letting them know. And that day, they didn’t see me where the incident happened,” she noted.

Her comments follow Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka’s revelation in Parliament that Naa Koryoo denied claims that her convoy was attacked during the 2024 elections, contradicting earlier reports.

Hawa Koomson, who lost her parliamentary seat to Naa Koryoo, expressed confidence that the truth will eventually come to light.

“God works in mysterious ways. When the Ablekuma North incident happened, I said God would fight my battles for me,” she added.

The Interior Ministry has since confirmed that investigations into the Awutu Senya East election violence are ongoing, with authorities tracing the driver of the Mahindra as part of efforts to uncover the full facts of the case.
