The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a strong public warning following a sharp rise in fake social media accounts impersonating the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and its senior officials.

The alert comes on the heels of the official 2025 GAF enlistment and recruitment exercise, which began on October 1, 2025. The CSA says the launch has triggered an upsurge in fraudulent activity targeting unsuspecting job seekers.

According to the Authority, 86 fake accounts posing as military officers or official GAF recruitment channels have been detected within the past week alone. Investigations show that these accounts are being used to carry out sophisticated recruitment scams.

The CSA outlined the tactics used by the fraudsters: criminals create social media profiles that appear legitimate by using GAF logos, images of real personnel, and official-sounding names. They then advertise fake recruitment offers and invite interested applicants to initiate contact.

Once victims engage, they are asked to pay for supposed application forms, medical examinations, background checks, uniforms, or training kits.

In some cases, the scam escalates further.

“Victims receive fake selection notices and are asked to submit scanned copies of their IDs, which are later used for identity theft,” the CSA stated.
Some victims have even been instructed to report to non-existent training centers, only to discover they have been duped.

The CSA is urging the public to verify all recruitment information using official GAF communication channels and to report suspicious accounts immediately. It also reminded the public that the Ghana Armed Forces does not conduct recruitment through private social media accounts or require advance payments of any kind.

The Authority further emphasized that individuals who knowingly participate in recruitment fraud, whether as perpetrators or facilitators, will face prosecution.

The Authority says it is working with the relevant social media platforms to take down the fraudulent accounts while investigations are ongoing.

In a public advisory, the CSA urged citizens to ignore any messages or posts advertising so-called “protocol recruitment” into the security services. It stressed that all legitimate recruitment information must be verified through official government channels. Specifically, it noted that the Ghana Armed Forces’ only authorized recruitment portal is https://apply.mil.gh/
