Ghana Embarks on a New Era of Hope and Renewal — Opong-Fosu

Governance and public policy analyst Akwasi Opong-Fosu has highlighted the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to restoring hope, integrity, and progress as a guiding light for all Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic on Tuesday, Mr. Opong-Fosu praised the President and Vice-President for their exemplary leadership, noting that their successful inauguration on January 7, 2025, marked the beginning of a new chapter for the nation.

A National Rebirth

Mr. Opong-Fosu underscored the need for Ghana to reclaim its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability to achieve a national rebirth. He also called for institutional reforms, ethical governance, and a return to servant leadership.

“Each of us has a role to play in this journey,” he said. “Let us harness our unity, determination, and shared vision to build a nation we can all take pride in—a Ghana that stands as a model of progress and integrity across Africa and beyond.”

Drawing on his experience as a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Opong-Fosu reflected on Ghana’s recent challenges, including economic difficulties, leadership shortcomings, and a decline in public trust in institutions. Despite these struggles, he expressed optimism for the future, likening Ghana’s potential resurgence to the mythical Phoenix rising from the ashes.

“The symbolism of the Phoenix resonates deeply with Ghana’s journey. Just as the bird emerges renewed from destruction, our nation can embark on a path of renewal through resilience and perseverance,” he remarked.

A Bold Economic Agenda

To drive this renewal, Mr. Opong-Fosu called for a bold economic agenda centered on entrepreneurship, innovation, and industrialization. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity, education, and skills development as key drivers for unlocking Ghana’s vast potential.

He also urged Ghanaians to work collectively toward the nation’s transformation. “Ghana’s renewal will not come from individual efforts alone; it will be the product of our shared determination, unity, and unwavering belief in the strength of our country,” he added.

Mr. Opong-Fosu’s remarks reflect a call to action for all Ghanaians to unite in rebuilding the country and creating a future filled with hope and opportunity.
