Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has reiterated that Otto Addo will continue as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that he will lead the team “as a proud Ghanaian.”
The Black Stars endured a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign—failing to win a match in six outings and missing out on next year’s tournament in Morocco. However, the team recovered strongly, winning five of their final six World Cup qualifiers to secure Ghana’s fifth appearance on the global stage.
The achievement makes Addo the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the national team for back-to-back World Cup tournaments, having also led the team to the 2022 edition in Qatar.
“Otto qualified Ghana in grand style to the upcoming World Cup, and Otto will lead Ghana as a proud Ghanaian to the World Cup,” Okraku told Asempa FM.
“Otto has a contract with the FA and we will respect the contract. He is not perfect, and no coach is perfect, neither is Kurt Okraku perfect. For me, he has delivered what we asked of him, and he has done it in grand style.
“For people to suddenly question the future of a coach who has qualified us for the Mundial—then we are not being serious in this country.”
Otto Addo is expected to remain in charge as the Black Stars embark on an Asian tour in November, where they will face Japan and South Korea in international friendlies.
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled for December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents.
