Firefighters from the Mpraeso Fire Station on Thursday spent nearly six hours rescuing two men after their vehicle skidded off the Kwahu–Abetifi–Abene road and plunged into a deep ditch.

The rescue operation, led by Station Officer II Sanusi Issah, began after emergency responders arrived to find the driver trapped inside the badly mangled vehicle. After several hours of cutting through the wreckage, the team successfully extricated him.

Both the driver and a passenger who was also injured were handed over to paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and transported to the Atibie Government Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by brake failure, which sent the vehicle veering off the road and into the ditch, severely damaging the front of the car.

Personnel from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), including Mr. Banahene, Emergency Medical Technician Mr. Brobbey, and other responders, assisted in securing the scene and clearing the area.

Authorities have since cautioned drivers to conduct regular vehicle maintenance, especially brake system checks, when traveling along the hilly Kwahu routes, where road conditions can pose heightened safety risks.
