A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Novihoho Afaglo, is urging President John Dramani Mahama to extend the mandate of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) task force to enable further investigations into alleged corruption cases linked to officials in the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Mr. Afaglo praised the collaboration between ORAL and the Office of the Attorney-General, describing their ongoing work as critical in uncovering suspected financial irregularities and the misuse of state resources.
According to him, the vigilance of the task force has prevented “millions of Ghana cedis” from being lost to the state. He noted that several investigations initiated under President Mahama’s leadership have brought to light significant issues that require accountability.
“The work of ORAL and the major corruption cases being uncovered should serve as a clear warning to current government officials that public office is a responsibility to improve lives—not an opportunity for personal gain,” he said.
Mr. Afaglo called on President Mahama to allow the task force to broaden its investigations and ensure that any individuals found culpable are prosecuted.
“President Mahama should extend ORAL’s efforts to uncover more corrupt activities of former officials and allow the law to take its full course,” he stated.
He further appealed to Ghanaians to support the President, the Attorney-General, and the ORAL task force in their efforts to promote transparency and accountability in governance.
In a pointed criticism of the former administration, Mr. Afaglo asserted that, unlike Nana Akufo-Addo, President Mahama would not act as a “clearing agent” in corruption matters.
He emphasized that the current administration remains committed to safeguarding public funds and ensuring that state resources are managed in the interest of all citizens.
