Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary and former Subin MP, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has called on presidential hopefuls within the party to be mindful of their utterances as the NPP works to restore unity ahead of future elections.
Speaking on the growing divisions within the party in an interview on Tuesday, October 14, he stressed that healing and unity must start with those seeking to lead.
He cautioned that reckless or inflammatory remarks from presidential hopefuls could further widen divisions within the party and jeopardize its electoral prospects.
“All my political colleagues contesting to become flagbearer of the party must be guided by their words,” he said. “They need to be measured in their public statements because that, too, is an important part of the unity-building process.”
Eugene Boakye Antwi further stated that if given the mandate as General Secretary, he would pursue a consultative and inclusive style of leadership aimed at bridging divides and fostering collective ownership within the New Patriotic Party.
“Unity is absolutely critical,” he stressed. “I intend to engage all factions in a constructive and transparent manner so that every member feels heard, respected, and valued.”
He cited former President John Agyekum Kufuor and former President Nana Akufo-Addo as leaders who successfully maintained party cohesion while delivering on major national reforms.
“[Former] President Kufuor maintained cohesion of the party while implementing major reforms. [Former] President Akufo-Addo also brought together stakeholders for initiatives like 1D1F and Free SHS. I will bring the same consultative approach to the party,” he stated.
Eugene Boakye Antwi believes that with the right leadership and discipline, the NPP can overcome its internal differences and remain a strong, united force ready to serve Ghanaians.
