Chelsea has begun disciplinary proceedings against midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues have begun disciplinary proceedings against Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez after he posted a video on social media after the ‘Albiceleste’ Copa America triumph that the French Football Federation says includes an alleged “racist and discriminatory” chant.

The Argentina squad’s celebrations after winning their second straight consecutive Copa America by beating Colombia 1-0 in the final have been partially marred by racist chants chanted by some players on the bus during the euphoria of winning another title.

Enzo Fernandez and some members of the Albiceleste squad were caught singing racist chants that mocked the African ancestry of many of the French players, with whom they have a long-standing rivalry since ‘Les Bleus’ knocked them out of the 2018 World Cup.

The Chelsea midfielder was accused of racism by his own Blues team-mate Wesley Fofana and the former Benfica player eventually posted a statement apologizing for the racist chants he sang at the celebrations.

However, these apologies have not prevented Chelsea from starting disciplinary proceedings against one of their stars, as the Stamford Bridge outfit announced in an official statement on social media.

“We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate. The club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure,” reads the statement.
