Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed his concern about the quality of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He said this in an interview after competing in a curtain raiser game between a Ghana Parliament select team and former Black Stars players in the Democracy Cup as part of activities marking the celebration of 30 years of democratic rule in Ghana.

Echoing the criticism leveled against the state pitch by Deputy Sports Minister Evans Bobie Opoku, the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency took a swipe at the poor pitch.

“The pitch is not as friendly as we would have wished to be and it was a struggle really controlling the ball but to some extent it’s okay, we’ve managed. We should thank God that there has not been any serious injury…it was fun and we all enjoyed ourselves.”

In the main game, Accra Hearts of Oak lost 2-1 to bitter rival Kumasi Asante Kotoko; this marks the third straight loss for Hearts to Kotoko after losing twice in the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season.
