Chinese scientists are making bold strides in the development of full-body humanoid robots.
At the Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, engineers are working on a brain-inspired intelligent robot that replicates human neural circuits and muscle activation.
Unlike previous models, this robot is expected to mimic both the internal mechanisms and the external appearance of humans. Chen Meng, senior engineer, Institution of Automation, Chinese Academy of Science: “For the hardware, we designed the driving system to mirror the musculoskeletal distribution of the human body.”
Going forward, researchers are working to enhance efficiency, reduce production costs and improve reliability to facilitate widespread adoption in the near future. Qiao Hong, Academician, Chinese Academy of Sciences:
“We have formed specialized research groups focusing on parts development to boost efficiency and reduce costs. By replacing imported components with self-developed ones, we can further cut costs.
Ensuring that the robot operates stably in various home and industrial environments is crucial. Cost and stability are paramount. Once we achieve stable operation through the integration of hardware and software, realizing high efficiency, low cost, and superior stability, widespread application will become a reality.” [Voiceover] According to a guideline published by Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China aims to mass-produce humanoid robots by 2025.
