Yaw Owusu, a 43-year-old landlord, has been arrested by police for allegedly stabbing his tenant to death at Awerempe in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.

The victim, 25-year-old Bright Abotsi, was rushed to the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect accused the deceased of stealing two mobile phones, leading to a heated confrontation. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stabbed Mr. Abotsi in the chest with a knife.

According to the police, the incident was reported by 40-year-old Comfort Nyanta, a sibling of the deceased. Officers who visited the scene found the victim’s body soaked in blood with a deep wound on the right side of his upper chest.

The police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned after investigations are completed.
