Residents of Bompata in the Asante Akim District of the Ashanti Region have declared their unwavering opposition to any mining activities in their community.

At a press conference on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the residents emphasized their commitment to protecting the environment for future generations and called on other communities to resist environmentally destructive mining practices.

Spokesperson Joseph Baah stated that no company or individual would be permitted to prospect for or mine gold in Bompata.

“Our stance is based on the serious environmental, social, and health consequences that mining has caused in other parts of the country. We will not allow mining in our community,” he said.

Baah highlighted concerns over the destruction of farmland, vegetation, and forest resources, warning that mining threatens the community’s livelihoods.

He also urged the government and relevant authorities to respect the community’s decision and ensure that no mining permits are granted in the area.
