Mfantsipim School has written its name in gold once again after successfully defending its crown to win the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), claiming back-to-back glory and a fourth national title in front of an ecstatic crowd at the University of Cape Coast.
Dubbed the “Battle of the Giants,” this year’s grand finale brought together three of Ghana’s most celebrated schools — Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO), and Opoku Ware School (OWASS) — in a contest that tested wit, teamwork, and nerves of steel.
From the start, the energy inside the NEC Auditorium was electric. Every correct answer drew roars of excitement from the crowd as the three schools traded points in a nail-biting intellectual showdown.
The defending champions made an early statement, taking the lead in the first round with 20 points, while AUGUSCO and OWASS followed closely with 17 points each. AUGUSCO surged ahead in the second round with 27 points, but Mfantsipim regained momentum during the Problem of the Day, edging their rivals with 30 points to AUGUSCO’s 29, as OWASS trailed on 19.
By the fourth round, Mfantsipim had built a strong lead with 46 points, keeping AUGUSCO at 42 and OWASS at 29. In the decisive final round, the Botwe Boys held their composure, responding with precision to secure victory with 56 points. AUGUSCO finished second with 42 points, while OWASS placed third with 29.
As the final bell rang, the auditorium erupted in cheers. Red-and-white flags waved high as jubilant supporters sang the famous “God is a MOBA!” chant. The champions lifted the trophy to thunderous applause, celebrating a moment of history and pride.
With this triumph, Mfantsipim not only defended its title but also cemented its legacy as one of the powerhouses of the National Science and Maths Quiz, now boasting four national trophies.
