The Atwima Techiman and Denkyemuoso Traditional Council has staged a massive demonstration to draw government attention to the deplorable state of roads in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Clad in red attire and holding placards, the demonstrators, led by Nana Tieku Owusu Ansah II, the Atwima Akyeamehene, expressed deep frustration over the stalled road construction works.
According to the chiefs and residents, contractors from Asabea Construction had earlier demolished structures, including parts of the palace and some homes along the stretch, to pave the way for the road project. However, the contractor reportedly abandoned the site shortly after, leaving the community in worse condition.
“Asabea came here and removed roofing sheets and structures along the roadside, including our palace, to begin the road. But they left without any explanation. They do not answer our calls or respond to us anymore,” Nana Owusu Ansah II lamented.
Residents say the poor state of the roads has led to increased transportation costs, frequent vehicle breakdowns, and severe dust pollution, resulting in respiratory and other health problems.
A 70-year-old resident, Aunty Adwoa Manu, recounted how the dusty road worsens her existing health conditions.
“This dusty road is killing us slowly. Those of us with chronic diseases are suffering the most,” she said.
The community is calling on the government to intervene urgently, resume the abandoned construction, and provide relief to residents whose livelihoods and health are being affected.
