William Ato Essien, the founder of the defunct Capital Bank is out of jail on bail granted by the Court of Appeal.

This follows an appeal he has filed against his conviction.

In a ruling today, a three-member panel of the second-highest court of the land granted bail to Essien in the sum of GH¢10million with two sureties.

The court ordered Essien to deposit his passport at the court’s registry and also report once a month to the Registrar of the Court.

Essien was jailed for 15 years in 2023 by the Accra High Court for stealing over GH¢90nillion belonging to the bank.
