The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned comments attributed to the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, describing them as divisive, offensive, and inconsistent with the values of the Party.
The MP reportedly claimed that the Ashantis historically “used slaves for war,” adding that the descendants of such people are unfit for leadership or positions of authority within the NPP—remarks that have since sparked widespread backlash.
In a statement dated November 2, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) described the comments by Kwaku Asante Boateng as deeply offensive and contrary to the NPP’s core values of unity, equality, and inclusivity.
“The Ashanti Regional Caucus completely disassociates itself from this narrative and condemns it in no uncertain terms,” the statement read. “The NPP was founded on the timeless principles of freedom, equality of opportunity, and inclusivity. Ours is a P arty that rewards merit, loyalty, and service — not lineage, tribe, or religious identity.”
The Caucus reaffirmed that every member of the NPP, regardless of background or origin, has an equal right to aspire to any leadership position within the Party or at the national level.
“As the bedrock of the NPP, the Ashanti Region rejects any attempt to use history, tribe, or identity to divide our ranks or to question the belonging of any loyal member,” the statement added. “Such rhetoric is divisive and undermines the unity and cohesion that have been the foundation of our Party’s success.”
The group further urged all Party members—especially those in leadership positions—to exercise restraint and decorum in their public remarks, emphasizing the importance of upholding the NPP’s core values of respect, discipline, and unity.
“The Ashanti Regional NPP Parliamentary Caucus stands firmly for a united Party and a united Ghana,” the statement concluded.
The Caucus’s position echoes an earlier clarification from the national leadership of the NPP, which also disassociated the Party from the alleged comments made by Hon. Asante Boateng, reaffirming the Party’s commitment to national unity, equality, and inclusion in pursuit of Ghana’s collective development.
