Residents of Amantena in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region have staged a large demonstration to oppose any mining operations in their community.

Clad in red and carrying placards, the protesters vowed to resist any attempts to introduce mining, warning that such activities could destroy farmland, pollute water sources, and threaten livelihoods.

Locals said mining has long been a concern in the area, pointing to environmental damage and health risks experienced by neighboring communities affected by similar operations.

The demonstrators urged the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament to take immediate action to safeguard the community from what they described as potential environmental harm.

Speaking to the media, youth leader Emmanuel Agyekum emphasized that the people of Amantena remain united and determined in their call for a mining-free community.
