Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, held a breakfast meeting with the five New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants at his private residence in Nima, Accra.
A statement from his office said the meeting was convened to promote unity and cooperation among the aspirants as the party gears up for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
In his opening remarks, the former President thanked the aspirants for attending despite their busy campaign engagements, commending their presence as a demonstration of their commitment to the party’s collective progress.
“Your presence this morning is a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party,” he stated.
Mr. Akufo-Addo reminded the aspirants that he had worked closely with each of them over the years and held them all in high regard, emphasizing that their candidacies were grounded in merit and their substantial contributions to both the New Patriotic Party and the nation.
He encouraged them to run clean, issue-based campaigns that focus on their individual visions for the party and for Ghana, rather than on personal attacks.
“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring that the party is fully energized and rallied to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” he stated.
In a demonstration of party solidarity, all five aspirants — Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong — pledged to maintain a healthy and competitive campaign atmosphere. They assured the former President of their personal commitment, as well as that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner after the primaries.
The aspirants also underscored the importance of party unity, vowing to uphold the spirit of togetherness and cooperation even after the internal contest concludes.
The meeting was attended by several prominent NPP figures, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.
Former President Akufo-Addo closed the session by urging the party’s leadership to ensure a transparent, fair, and credible primary process — one that would preserve internal cohesion and position the NPP strongly for victory in the 2028 general elections.
