Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has called for disciplinary action against the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya
Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has called for disciplinary action against the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, over what she described as false allegations made against former MP Mavis Hawa Koomson during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Ms. Manu said the recent report by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mubarak, has vindicated Hawa Koomson, as investigations revealed that Naa Koryoo’s convoy was never attacked, contrary to her earlier claims.
“I appreciate the fact that the Interior Minister is experienced and honest, but I also acknowledge that it was part of the government’s commitment to investigate electoral violence. Hawa Koomson has been unfairly judged by the public, especially after the incident where she pulled out a gun. This report shows she was defamed based on falsehoods,” Ms. Manu stated.
She commended the Interior Minister for his transparency in presenting the findings but insisted that truth and accountability must be upheld regardless of political affiliation.
“So, what happens now with Koryoo? She never denied her claims until the report came out. No one should be shielded from wrongdoing, even if they are in Parliament or their party is in power. There should be consequences for the lies Koryoo told — she should not get away with it,” she added.
The Interior Minister’s report concluded that there was no evidence of an attack on Naa Koryoo’s convoy during the 2024 elections, dismissing earlier allegations that her team had been shot at by individuals linked to Hawa Koomson.
