The communication teams of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Asutifi North, Asutifi South, and the Ahafo Region have dismissed allegations that the Members of Parliament for the two constituencies incited a mob attack on officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Hwidiem.
Speaking to the media after visiting the area, the Asutifi South NDC Communications Officer, Asafo Agyei Baffour, described the claims against Alhaji Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South, and Dr Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, MP for Asutifi North, as false and politically motivated attempts to tarnish their reputations.
He stressed that both MPs have no involvement in illegal mining and remain committed to former President John Dramani Mahama’s directives in the fight against galamsey.
“The allegation that Dr Addo mobilized over 600 ‘macho men’ within five minutes is not only unrealistic but also a deliberate effort to mislead the public. These stories are pure fabrications meant to damage his image,” Mr Baffour said.
He called on security agencies to conduct an independent and thorough investigation into the incident at Bronikrom and the Hwidiem Police Station to establish the facts.
Mr Baffour also urged investigators to visit the operational site to determine whether the mining activities in question were indeed illegal, stressing that transparency in the process would help bring closure to the matter.
