Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has made a strong start in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, guiding Sudan to a crucial 1-0 win over Niger in their Group F opener today.

The victory did not only earn Sudan three vital points but also positions them temporarily at the top of the group.

The decisive goal came in the 51st minute, thanks to Abobaker Mamoun Eisa at the Juba Stadium in South Sudan, showcased the tactical acumen Appiah has brought to the team.

Appiah, who previously managed Ghana’s Black Stars, assumed leadership of Sudan with the aim of steering them to the AFCON finals in Morocco.

His tenure has been marked by an impressive unbeaten streak, including four wins and a draw in his last five competitive matches.

This form extends to World Cup qualifiers, demonstrating his knack for maximising his players’ performance in key matches.

The win against Niger enhances Sudan’s chances of advancing in the qualifiers and sets up an eagerly anticipated match against Ghana, Appiah’s former team.

Sudan will now face Angola in their second qualifier, where Appiah will look to maintain his unbeaten run and fortify Sudan’s position in the group.
