Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has voiced his support for Otto Addo, encouraging Ghanaians to remain patient with the struggling Black Stars coach in spite of increasing calls for his dismissal.
Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco now look unpromising after a disappointing campaign, with the Black Stars still searching for their first win in four matches.
Their most current challenge came in a 2-0 defeat to Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in Libya, leaving Ghana on the danger zone, while Sudan needs just one point to secure their place alongside Angola in the tournament.
Addo, who signed a three-year contract with an optional two-year extension, is now under mounting pressure as fans demand his immediate dismissal.
However, Afriyie, a seasoned football administrator, believes that Ghana should support the coach during these difficult times, particularly with the next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers approaching.
“I am not one of those who will say we have to sack Otto. We have to keep faith with him and ensure that he continues the process he has started, because remember, we still have the World Cup qualifiers,” Afriyie said during an interview on Asempa FM.
“We need to give him the necessary support. In these AFCON qualifiers, let’s accept that we might not make and allow Otto to take his decisions and learn on the job as we look ahead,” he added.
