Abena Fosua, a resident of Kasoa in the Central Region, is breathing a cautious sigh of relief after her 22-year-old daughter, Benedicta Agyeiwaa, regained consciousness following the tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium during Wednesday’s Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.

Speaking to Adom News, Abena revealed that Benedicta, a prospective recruit caught in the chaos, was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, where she initially fell into a coma.

“She went into a coma, but she has now regained consciousness. I am hopeful she will recover fully and return home soon,” Abena said, her voice a mix of relief and worry.

The mother of four added that she has been praying fervently for her daughter’s recovery since the incident, which claimed the lives of six young women and left several others injured due to what GAF described as a breach of protocols at the venue.

Medical officials at the 37 Military Hospital confirmed that Benedicta is responding well to treatment and remains under close observation.

In response to the tragedy, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise, following a directive from President John Mahama, and established a board to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stampede.
