The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed that his office lacked the authority to prevent former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from leaving Ghana following the 2024 elections.

Mr. Agyebeng said the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was aware of Ofori-Atta’s departure but did not have the institutional backing to enforce travel restrictions.

“We didn’t watch him leave; we were powerless, that’s the truth. We saw him leave, but we couldn’t stop him at the airport,” he disclosed.

Mr. Agyebeng noted that the situation has improved under the current administration, with stronger collaboration between the OSP and security agencies.

“Now we can rely on the Ghana Immigration Service to stop someone if necessary. But at that time, even if you called Immigration, no one would respond,” he added.
