The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has called on his colleague, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, to withdraw his petition seeking the removal of Abena Osei-Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), describing the move as ill-informed and potentially embarrassing.

A Plus, the Gomoa Central MP, filed the petition with Speaker Alban Bagbin on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, arguing that Abena Osei-Asare’s position as PAC Chair presents a conflict of interest, given that the issues currently before the committee arose during her tenure as Deputy Minister of Finance.

Responding via a Facebook post, Osei Nyarko warned that the petition was procedurally flawed and contrary to parliamentary rules.

“My colleague A Plus should take his time to understand parliamentary rules and procedures properly,” Osei Nyarko wrote. “He should know that the Speaker has no power to remove any Member of Parliament from any committee — not even the Leader of Government Business has such powers.”

He explained that only the leadership of the parliamentary caucuses, through the Committee of Selection, can make changes to committee memberships or leadership roles.

“His petition to the Speaker to remove Hon. Abena Osei-Asare is dead on arrival,” Osei Nyarko said, urging A Plus to withdraw the request immediately “to avoid any embarrassment to himself.”

Osei Nyarko added that if A Plus believes the PAC Chair has acted in an unparliamentary manner, he should follow the proper sections of the Standing Orders rather than requesting the Speaker to take action outside his mandate.

The Akim Swedru MP emphasized that parliamentary procedures must be respected and cautioned against “political bravado” that could undermine the dignity of Parliament.
