President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to the late former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing his death as “a sad loss to Kenya, Africa, and the world.”

In a post on his official Facebook page, President Mahama extended heartfelt condolences to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga family, and the people of Kenya.

Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, at the age of 80, while receiving medical treatment in Kochi, India. Reports indicate that he suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Odinga was a towering figure in Kenyan politics and a lifelong champion of democracy. Despite five unsuccessful presidential bids, his influence shaped Kenya’s political landscape — from the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1991 to the promulgation of a new constitution in 2010.

His leadership during the tumultuous 2007 post-election period, which was marred by violence and national unrest, marked a defining moment in Kenya’s modern history.

Tributes have since poured in from across Africa and beyond, with leaders and citizens alike celebrating Odinga’s enduring legacy and his lifelong commitment to justice and democratic governance.
