The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that a section of the 161kV Aboadze–Tarkwa transmission line operated by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has been damaged, potentially causing temporary power supply disruptions in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.

In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said a maintenance team has been dispatched to the affected site to begin urgent repair works.

“The maintenance team has been swiftly deployed and is currently at the location, working diligently to repair the line as quickly as possible,” the statement said.

The Ministry noted that technical assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage and restore transmission capacity in the shortest possible time.

Preliminary findings indicate that areas such as Kumasi and Tarkwa may experience temporary power interruptions while the repair works continue.

“The analysis also highlights the possibility of power supply disruption in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions within this short period, precisely Kumasi and Tarkwa,” the statement added.

The Ministry expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that every effort is being made to restore normal power supply.

“We wish to assure the general public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalize the situation,” the statement said, adding that the Ministry remains committed to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply across the country.
