The widow and elder sister of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu — popularly known as Daddy Lumba — are demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, which occurred on July 26, 2025, in Ghana.

In a joint statement released on October 13, 2025, Mrs. Akosua Serwaa Fosu, the musician’s wife who resides in Germany, and Ms. Ernestina Fosu, his elder sister, expressed deep concern over the conflicting reports surrounding the 60-year-old artist’s passing.

The family has therefore called on both the Ghanaian and German authorities to launch a transparent and comprehensive probe to establish the true cause of death.

According to Mrs. Akosua Serwaa Fosu and Ms. Ernestina Fosu, at least three conflicting accounts have emerged about the circumstances leading to the death of the highlife icon.

In the first account, an eyewitness reportedly claimed that on the night of the incident, Mr. Fosu called a friend to his residence. However, the friend was allegedly denied entry by a woman living with the musician. After waiting for nearly two hours without seeing him, the friend left—only to later receive a call that Daddy Lumba had passed away.

The second version, contained in a report by the Ghana Police Service to the Coroner at the District Magistrate Court in Accra, stated that the musician, who was known to be diabetic, complained of leg and waist pain on July 24, 2025. He was taken to the Sunshine Diagnostic Center for an MRI scan, during which he was reportedly placed under anesthesia due to agitation and fear. He developed severe pain afterwards and died two days later, on July 26, at the Bank Hospital.

A third version, however, was presented by a woman identified as Ms. Priscilla O. She initially told the family that Daddy Lumba had been taken to the Bank Hospital, where he received an injection that caused intense pain before his death. But when questioned again the following day by a relative, she allegedly changed her account, saying he had died at home and that she cleaned and dressed the body before calling another woman, identified as Serwaa A., to help transport him to the hospital.

“These contradictory accounts have left the family deeply disturbed and uncertain about what truly happened,” the statement read. “They raise serious questions about the cause of death and whether due medical and investigative procedures were followed.”

The statement further revealed that Mrs. Akosua Serwaa Fosu and Ms. Ernestina Fosu have contacted the German Embassy in Accra, the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, and the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin to assist in ensuring a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The family is also urging the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to invite and question Ms. Priscilla O. and Mr. Philip Kwabena A., popularly known as Roman Fada, in connection with the case.

According to them, several key documents—including medical reports, official correspondence, and confirmation from the Transition Funeral Home regarding the handling of the remains—have been submitted to the relevant authorities. They insist that only a transparent, independent investigation will establish the true cause of death.

In a joint statement, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosu and Ms. Ernestina Fosu stated:

“We, the family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, loved him dearly and are devastated by the conflicting and unclear reports surrounding his death. We trust that both the Ghanaian and German authorities will work together to uncover the truth, ensure justice, and bring transparency to this painful situation.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. Akosua Serwaa Fosu has filed for an injunction to halt the funeral arrangements of the late musician, citing her exclusion from the process.

She has also reaffirmed her legal status as the officially wedded wife of the late highlife legend, emphasizing her right to be involved in all matters relating to his burial and legacy.
