National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has defended his ongoing nationwide thank-you tour, explaining that it is a gesture of appreciation to party members and supporters for their contributions to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
The tour, which marks his second round of post-election engagements since the party took office in January 2025, aims to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of grassroots members who, he said, made the NDC’s return to power possible.
However, the tour has drawn criticism from some members of the public and political analysts, who contend that such post-election outreach is usually the responsibility of a presidential candidate rather than a party chairman—especially when the party is already in government.
Speaking to party supporters in the Hohoe Constituency on Tuesday, October 14, Mr. Asiedu Nketia dismissed the criticisms, maintaining that his tour is consistent with the NDC’s enduring culture of gratitude, unity, and appreciation for its grassroots base.
“Those who disagree with me can go on with their views, but I will keep my word—that’s why I am here,” he stated. “It is part of our culture that when you ask for something and you receive it, you return to express gratitude. That is exactly why I have come—to say thank you to everyone.”
Mr. Asiedu Nketia stressed that the tour was not a political spectacle but a sincere gesture of appreciation to the party’s grassroots members, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication and hard work secured the NDC’s victory and return to power.
