The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has arrested two Chinese nationals for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities within the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Jomoro area of the Western North Region, according to Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the arrests were made on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as part of ongoing nationwide efforts to clamp down on illegal mining and its damaging effects on the environment.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday, October 9, he disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during an enforcement operation led by NAIMOS operatives.
The Task Force also seized a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (registration number GR 442–14), four excavators, and two heavy-duty water pumping machines. Additionally, twelve makeshift structures believed to have served as operational bases were dismantled and destroyed.
“The NAIMOS Task Force remains resolute in its mission to uproot illegal mining and restore order in the country’s mining zones,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.
The arrests form part of a series of recent enforcement operations in the Western Region. Earlier in the week, on Sunday, October 5, NAIMOS carried out a raid at Aboso, and on Tuesday, October 7, the Task Force conducted further operations along the Ankobra River and Kamei Stream, where several pieces of equipment and makeshift mining camps were destroyed.
