The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two men involved in a violent robbery and rape incident that occurred along the Apollonia–Afienya road on September 27, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, the police said the attack targeted a 19-year-old hairdresser who had hired one of the suspects, Nicholas Tetteh, a commercial motor rider, to take her to Afienya.

According to investigations, Tetteh allegedly conspired with two accomplices, including Joseph Tetteh, to ambush the victim.

“Investigations revealed that the victim was dragged into a nearby bush, where she was sexually assaulted by two of the suspects. They also stole her iPhone XR and a handbag containing GHC 150.00,” the police report stated.

The victim managed to report the incident to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where she received medical attention and provided her statement to investigators.

Thanks to swift police action, the suspects were arrested, charged with robbery and rape, and later arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway.

“The suspects pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour,” the police statement confirmed.

According to the police, the rape charge is still under review and will proceed once the Attorney-General’s Office provides its advice.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding justice, protecting victims, and maintaining public safety across the region.
